Visa Application Centers (VAC) in India will soon begin to schedule restricted biometrics appointments. This will commence from November 20 in various Indian cities, like Delhi, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
This announcement was made by the Canadian government in a new tweet. The government also said that it will schedule a finite number of biometrics appointments in the Indian cities listed above.
They will prioritize family class applicants and international students.
Resuming biometrics is the end of a series of major obstacles for Indians. They are the ones who are exempt from Canada’s Covid-19 travel restrictions.
Foreign students have been exempt from the travel restrictions of Canada since October 20. However, Indian students, who failed to submit their biometrics earlier, could not travel to Canada.
The same is the case with skilled workers and family class immigrants who are also exempt from the travel limitation.
Since VACs are re-opening in India, those who are exempt from the travel restrictions of Canada may submit their biometrics. This will allow them to complete their immigration application process to let them set foot on Canadian soil.
The Canadian government tweet said that it will refuse to accept walk-in clients at VACs. It is mandatory to book prior appointments. You may visit your VAC if you attend your own appointment slot.
If you have been issued a unique Biometrics Instructions Letter (BIL) from the IRCC, you will receive further instructions on your email ID. This will state the way to schedule your biometrics appointment.
The government said that more appointments will be made available gradually every week as the stages progress.
India’s Stand-in Total Number of Immigrants Entering Canada
India is the leading source of foreign students and immigrants for Canada.
Last year, more than 85,000 Indian immigrants were welcomed. This was almost 25% of the 341,000 plus new permanent residents who are allowed entry by Canada.
In 2019, Canada welcomed 220,000 foreign students. This is more than 33% of the 640,000 plus foreign students in the country last year.
Foreign nationals who wish to get a study permit, visitor visa, permanent residence, work permit, asylum or refugee status, visitor record, require biometrics. It is also needed by someone who is seeking an extension to their work or study permit.
Foreign nationals need to pay a fee and submit their photographs and fingerprints. Biometrics help Canada confirm the true identity of international travelers when they set foot in the country.
