Candidates May Now Submit Quebec Experience Program Applications Online

All candidates may now submit their applications for the Quebec Experience Program online. This will be from January 12 through the Arrima platform.

This means that all such applicants may submit their applications, download the required documents, and pay the necessary through the platform.

Earlier, all applicants were informed by Quebec that paper-based submissions would be possible till January 25, 2021. After that, they will have to submit all such applications online. They also mentioned that the Quebec Ministry of Immigration will not accept any paper applications.

This is not the only program that goes through a change.

Applicants to the Quebec Foreign Student Program are now able to submit their applications through Arrima platform. The start of this was from the spring of 2020.

These applicants will also be subject to a similar compulsory online submission process from January 26, 2021.

The Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) points out that submission of necessary documents will have to be done online. This will be possible once the three new immigration pilot projects are launched.

In the near future, Quebec is expected to start three new permanent immigration pilot programs. These shall be for workers in the food processing, computer, and health sectors.

What Do You Mean By Arrima?

Arrima is an online platform that is used by MIFI. The introduction of Arrima by Quebec was to collect Expressions of Interests (EOI) from foreign nationals. These foreign nationals are the ones who wish to immigrate to Quebec through the Quebec Skilled Worker Program.

MIFI assesses all the submitted profiles based on the information that the Arrima portal provides. This information is fed into the portal by the foreign nationals.

MIFI assesses the profiles according to different factors, such as:

  • Language skills
  • Education
  • Work experience

Suitable candidates are invited to apply for the Quebec Selection Certificate.

The launch of the new platform was in 2019. The primary aim was to speed up the processing of immigration applications and better align immigration with respective labor requirements.

Before this change, the immigration system of Quebec was based on a first-come, first-serve basis. Delays at that time to obtain a CSQ went up to 36 months.

In the last 2 years, Quebec as a province has expanded this platform. Now, it includes various other programs with several new functionalities.

Apart from QSWP applicants, the Arrima portal is now also available for foreign nationals who wish to settle in Quebec either permanently or temporarily. They need to apply for the same through the Quebec International Student Program along with PEQ.

Levels of Immigration in Quebec

Quebec wishes to welcome a maximum of 47,500 newcomers this year. The new targets of the province are marginally higher than last year.

In 2020, Quebec had a target of welcoming a maximum of 44,500 newcomers. Unfortunately, they fell short of the target.

Therefore, Quebec wishes to compensate for the shortfall of between 13,000 and 18,000 immigrants for last year. This shortfall was due to the global Covid-19 pandemic that hampered the immigration levels of the francophone province.

The majority of the immigrants that will be admitted by Quebec this year will be from their economic immigration programs.
