The process of sending out invitations by the Government of Canada to apply for the 2020 PGP is now complete. All the invitations were issued to possible sponsors of grandparents and parents. These people had submitted their Interest to Sponsor form last year.
Almost 2 weeks ago, IRCC organized its 2020 PGP lottery. After this, they started sending out invitations over a 10-day period.
Recipients of the invitations have 60 days to complete and submit their application to sponsor their grandparents and parents.
In a press release, IRCC had made a statement that possible sponsors should always check their junk and spam mails for the invitation. These are the sponsors who have successfully submitted their applications but have not received the invitation email from IRCC. These people may also check the status of the invitations on the IRCC website.
There has been an indication by IRCC that recipients of the invitation were randomly chosen. They also confirmed that they will accept a total of 10,000 complete applications for the 2020 PGP.
It is a fact that PGP is extremely popular in Canada and the number of interested candidates willing to sponsor always exceeds the number of accepted applications. There have been people who submitted sponsorship applications last year. However, they failed to be chosen in the 2020 round. Such people are encouraged to do so again for the 2021 PGP.
Canada wishes to issue a maximum of 30,000 invitations for the 2021 PGP. There will be further information about the program on the IRCC website as soon as it is available.
IRCC plans to use a randomized selection process once again this year.
The PGP is designed to allow Canadian permanent residents and citizens to sponsor their parents and grandparents to stay in Canada. Parents and grandparents who are approved under the PGP are given permanent residence and may also apply for Canadian citizenship at a later date.
Super-Visa is also there for people who wish to bring their parents or grandparents to Canada. This lets them stay in the country for a maximum of two years.
