Ontario Issues Invitations to New Skilled Trades and French-Speaking Skilled Workers

Ontario issues 484 invitations to Express Entry (EE) candidates through two provincial immigration streams. This was the first draw of the year for Ontario.

On January 13, OINP issued Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to several candidates. These candidates were in the Skilled Trades and French-Speaking Skilled Worker streams.

These two intensified PNPs are quite similar to the EE system. Recipients of NOI in this draw should have EE profiles created between January 13, 2020, and January 13, 2021.

The Skilled Trades Stream lets the OINP search the EE pool for candidates presently living in Ontario. These candidates need to have a minimum of a year-long full-time work experience or anything equivalent in part-time work.

This work experience should be in a skilled trade listed in Minor Group 633 or Major Group 72, 73, or 82 under Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC).

A total of 338 Skilled Trades Stream candidates, who received NOIs today, had a CRS score between 434 and 460.

The French-Speaking Skilled Worker (FSSW) stream is customized to English and French-speaking EE candidates. These candidates have to fulfill the eligibility requirements of the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Canadian Experience Class.

Both federal programs have their individual needs for education and work experience.

Candidates in this stream require a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of a minimum of seven in French. They also need a minimum of six in English apart from other eligibility requirements.

146 FSSW candidates received NOIs in today’s draw. They had a CRS score ranging from 456 to 460.

Candidates do not require a job offer to apply under either the French-Speaking Skilled Worker or Skilled Trades Streams. However, the need to fulfill all the necessary provincial and federal requirements mentioned by the OINP.

Those who successfully receive a provincial nomination under these two EE-aligned streams will receive an additional 600 CRS points. This will effectively ensure an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence through the EE system.

EE is basically an application management system for three federal immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

In order to get identified, the first step as a candidate under the Skilled Trades and French-Speaking Skilled Worker Streams would be to create an EE profile.

All recipients under Ontario’s EE streams will be contacted by the OINP. They need to submit their completed applications for a provincial nomination within 45 calendar days in order to obtain an NOI.
