BC Tech Pilot Draw Welcomed 74 Immigration Applicants

On February 9, British Columbia sent out 74 invitations for provincial nominations for permanent residence.

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program or the BC-PNP held a Tech-Pilot draw. This scheme issued invitations under two categories. These are the Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC.

Shortlisted candidates from both International Graduate and Skilled Worker subcategories needed 80 to be the score.

The draw held on February 9 witnessed the minimum score in the early 80s. This was similar to the case for Tech Pilot draws held from the beginning of the year.

The BC-PNP Tech Pilot, a well-known, fast-paced immigration pathway, is primarily for international students and tech workers.

The pilot project was introduced in 2017. It has been extended quite a few times until June 2021.

To be eligible, candidates need to register in at least one of BC’s provincial immigration streams. They also need to have a valid work offer. They need to ensure that the offer duration is 12 months and in one of Tech Pilot’s 29 occupations.

To apply to either the Skills Immigration or the Express Entry BC categories, all applicants need to create a profile on BC PNP’s online portal. Once done, they need to register under Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS).

Applicants are evaluated and given a score. This score is used to determine whether they can be invited for an invitation round. Scores are allotted based on factors like education, years of work experience, and BC employment offers.

Only those Express Entry candidates who have received a nomination from British Columbia (BC) will receive 600 points. These points will get added to their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. They are also guaranteed an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in future Express Entry draws.

Federal Express Entry draws are held twice a month. In such draws, about 4,000 immigration candidates apply for permanent residence in Canada.

The most recent Express Entry draw, conducted on January 21, had 4,626 invitations. These were all for permanent residence. This is among the largest rounds of invitations from the time the system was launched. In this year, IRCC has issued almost 10,000 ITAs. It has stated claimed that it will continue making efforts to welcome new immigrants in the coming years.

In 2021, BC has scheduled 6 draws via PNP categories. It has sent out invitations to more than 800 candidates for a provincial nomination.

Invited candidates will get time up to 30 calendar days to apply for a nomination.
