British Columbia or BC has invited immigration candidates under the Tech Pilot scheme in the most recent provincial draw.
The BC invited immigration candidates to file an application for a provincial nomination for securing a permanent residence on 26th January this year.
The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program or the BC PNP has issued about 81 invitations through the Express Entry BC or EEBC and the Skills Immigration.
The EEBC stream is only for candidates who have a valid profile in the federal government’s Express Entry channel, Canada’s primary pathway for all those skilled immigrants who are expecting to secure permanent residence in Canada. The SI stream, on the other hand, is reserved for semi-skilled and skilled workers the occupations of whom are much in demand in the BC region.
Candidates had been invited under the International Graduate and Skilled Worker subcategories via the BC PNP Tech Pilot. However, all invited candidates ought to have a job offer in an eligible tech occupation for receiving the nomination. The least score mandated for candidates who receive invitations was 80 in this draw for all categories.
BC holds draws via two Provincial Nominee Program or PNP streams and categories each week.
To file an application in the Express Entry BC or Skills Immigration categories, applicants need to build an online profile through the portal of BC PNP and register themselves under the Skills Immigration Registration System, better known as SIRS.
Applicants are first evaluated and then, a score is issued on the basis of factors such as education level, work experience, English proficiency, and employment location.
Once the application is approved, the applicant can use the provincial nomination and apply for a permanent residence program with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) through the Express Entry system.
Only those Express Entry candidates who’ll be receiving a nomination sent by British Columbia will be allotted 600 extra points for their Express Entry CRS or Comprehensive Ranking System score. The additional points will increase the CRS score and guarantee an ITA during any subsequent draw.
The BC PNP is one of Canada’s PNPs. Provinces, through these programs, can nominate newcomers who can easily settle well in the local labor market.
British Columbia had launched the Tech Pilot back in 2017 as a response to unprecedented growth in its technology sector coupled with the influx of international talent quitting the US technology centers like Silicon Valley. In part, such a phenomenon has been attributed to stringent economic and immigration policies in the Trump Era.
British Columbia holds a reputation for its tech expertise and innovation; its mild, soothing climate and proximity to the US markets are key factors in attracting workers and businesses.
The BC PNP has conducted five draws from January, in which the minimum scores ranged from 77 to 106. Besides tech workers, BC also continues inviting graduates and workers in non-tech professionals regularly.
