IRCC issues its invitations to 374 Express Entry interested candidates with a CRS cut-off at 741.
Canada held the third Express Entry 2021 immigration draw on 20th January. Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have invited about 374 Provincial Nominee Program or PNP candidates who need to have a score of at least 741.
Express Entry is the foremost way Canada accepts skilled workers who are seeking a Canadian permanent residence. During 2021-2023, the Immigration Levels Plan, Canada is looking forward to welcoming at least 110,000 immigrants under the Express Entry annually. IRCC uses Express Entry to tackle applications of skilled workers in the following programs:
- Canadian Experience Class.
- Federal Skilled Worker Program and
- Federal Skilled Trades Program
Typically, Express Entry is a one-of-a-kind two-step process. During the first step, candidates who are eligible under at least one of the three skilled worker programs can upload the profile on the IRCC’s website. Then, they can access the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) on the basis of human capital like their education, age, language skills, and also work experience.
In the second step, IRCC conducts its Express Entry draws almost every two weeks and officially issues its Invitations to Apply, better known as ITAs, for permanent residences to candidates with high CRS scores. If you are a candidate and have received an ITA, you can proceed to submit an application for permanent residence to the IRCC.
Candidates can successfully get 600 CRS extra if they receive an invitation through a Provincial Nominee Program also known as PNP, which is Express Entry-aligned. It guarantees that they will receive their ITA for their permanent residence.
The PNP is the second most important way by which Canada allows the entry of skilled worker immigrants. The majority of Canada’s territories and provinces operate their immigrant selection systems via the PNP in order to welcome the skilled newcomers who can address local labor market needs. The candidates who are capable of meeting the selection criteria of an Express Entry-aligned PNP are eligible in obtaining another 600 CRS points with the assumption that they get an invitation for provincial nomination.
Express Entry experienced a record-breaking 2020 despite the pandemic. This is because Canada could issue up to 108,350 ITAs last year. The country has set targets to increase in the coming years, looking to welcome a greater number of immigrants to support and promote post-COVID-19 economic recovery.
Canada had held the first two draws of Express Entry in 2021 on 6th and 7th January. Both of these draws were program-specific. The first draw had sent an invitation to 250 PNP candidates and the second one to 4,750 CEC interested candidates.
The IRCC conducted its program-specific draws during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic with the rationale that candidates would be more likely to be capable of avoiding any disruption related to COVID-19. However, Canada ended the year 2020 with all-program draws that were successful in enabling FSTP and FSWP candidates to obtain ITAs.
To date, IRCC has been able to issue 5,374 ITAs, which exceeds the number it had issued in 2020. This figure is expected to increase with a CEC-only draw expected to take place later this week.
The draw held today saw IRCC issuing more invitations and reducing CRS cut-off score that was scheduled for the draw on 6th January. In that one, the cut-off score had been set at 813.
